Using Teaching Assistants to Manage Live Streams

  Teaching assistants are primarily responsible for chat room management or monitoring. In a three-screen scenario, an assistant can also be assigned to help the instructor with PPT slide navigation.

Here, the three-screen mode is used as an example; the same applies to regular live streams.

  1. In the live stream backend, under Role Management > Teaching Assistant Settings, there are 5 default sub-channels. If needed, you can create new sub-channels or configure sub-channel information. Click Settings to customize assistant details, including avatar, nickname, title, password, and permissions.
  2. In the permission settings, you can enable PPT slide navigation and display the online list. This allows the assistant to help the instructor navigate slides while managing the chat room. If monitoring is selected, the other two options become unavailable.

Now, let's look at these two modes.

  1. Select Monitoring, confirm and save, click the assistant link, log in using the sub-channel number and password, and enter the monitoring interface. The page is simple, primarily ensuring live stream security. If an issue occurs, click "Disable Live Stream" to end it. Once the stream returns to normal, click "Resume Live Stream."
  2. Display Online List: Similarly, log in using the sub-channel number and password to enter the assistant management interface:
   2.1 On the left, Member Management allows you to mute, mute by IP, or kick out offending members. These actions apply to online viewers.
   2.2 Mute: After muting, the viewer's messages are visible only to themselves. You can also mute by IP, which makes all messages from viewers under that IP visible only to themselves. This may cause accidental issues. If this happens, you can lift the restriction in the Online List > Muted List.
   2.3 Kick Out: You can kick out offending viewers. After being kicked out, the viewer will see a prompt indicating they are not authorized to watch this live stream. If a viewer is kicked out by mistake, you can lift the kick-out restriction.

If PPT slide navigation permission is enabled, you can assist the instructor with slide navigation. Here, you can also help the instructor post announcements.

  1. On the right, Content Management allows you to delete offending messages within your permission scope. The permission hierarchy is as shown on screen (Admin > Instructor = Teaching Assistant). Deleted messages cannot be recovered and will not be retained in the chat history. You can also close the chat room.
  2. Additionally, teaching assistants can initiate classroom interactions such as check-ins, lucky draws, quizzes, and surveys.
