Feature Description

POLYV VOD Mini Program Plugin supports enabling screen recording prevention by default for encrypted videos. This feature relies on the screen protection capability provided by WeChat. On supported devices and WeChat environments, protected content in recorded screens will be hidden, reducing the risk of video content being recorded and distributed.

After integrating a plugin version that supports this feature, no additional screen recording prevention parameters are required. The plugin automatically determines whether to enable the feature based on the encryption information of the video returned by the server. Normal videos will not have this feature actively enabled.

Prerequisites

• The host mini-program has integrated an official plugin version that includes the screen recording prevention feature. Hosts using older versions need to update the plugin version and release the mini-program; plugin upgrades will not automatically apply to existing hosts.
• The video is played via video vid, and the server-side video information is marked as encrypted. Passing only a signature or playback credential does not mean the video meets encryption conditions; videos played via custom URLs or without server-side encryption markers will not have this feature automatically enabled.
• The WeChat and system environments meet the following conditions:

WeChat officially states that this API supports mini-program plugins and HarmonyOS version of WeChat. The above version conditions do not guarantee the same effect on every device. Specific adaptation depends on the WeChat official API documentation and actual device performance.

Usage

1. Update the VOD plugin used by the host mini-program to version 1.19.1 or above (official release).
2. Pass the encrypted video vid according to the original integration method, load and play the video. The plugin will automatically request to enable screen protection.
3. Use the target device to perform screen recording verification, confirm the effect, and then release the host mini-program.

Pausing an encrypted video will not automatically disable protection. After switching to a normal video or ending the playback scenario, the plugin updates the protection settings based on the current player state. When multiple players exist on the same page, as long as an encrypted player still holds protection, normal videos may also be affected by screen protection.

When the business ends the playback scenario, the player component should be removed. If the mini-program itself or other plugins also call the WeChat screen protection API, the integrator needs to coordinate settings to avoid overwriting each other.

Verification Method

1. Play an encrypted video on a real device, enable system screen recording, and verify both half-screen and full-screen playback.
2. Stop recording and save, then check the recorded video in the album to see if the video content is protected. Do not rely solely on the phone playback screen or a successful API callback to determine if the feature is effective.
3. End the encrypted video playback scenario, switch to a normal video, and re-record to check if the protection is removed. During testing, ensure no other encrypted player on the same page still holds protection.
4. If the business uses a floating window, additionally verify the process of exiting the playback page, closing the floating window, and re-entering a normal video.

Usage Limitations

• Screen recording prevention is a WeChat screen capability, not a mask that only covers a single player area.
• iOS currently only supports screen recording protection and does not support preventing screenshots through this capability. Screenshot effects on other systems depend on WeChat adaptation.
• It does not guarantee blocking audio recording or external device filming, nor does it ensure protection on all systems, WeChat versions, and recording methods.
• When the environment does not support it or the API call fails, the plugin continues the original playback flow without pausing or blocking playback as a fallback. The screen recording prevention call does not block playback initialization, so the first frame before the API takes effect is not guaranteed to be protected.

Q: Do I need to manually enable screen recording prevention?

A: No. When using a plugin version that supports this feature to play a video marked as encrypted by the server, the plugin enables it by default; normal videos do not have it actively enabled.

Q: Why can I still watch the video normally after enabling it?

A: The feature targets the performance of recorded screens. Normal viewing cannot be used to determine if the protection is effective. Please stop recording and check the saved video in the album.

Q: Why is the saved recording still clear?

A: First, confirm the actual plugin version used by the host, the video encryption status, and the device system and WeChat base library version. If there is still no effect after meeting the conditions, please provide the video vid, plugin version, phone model, system version, WeChat version, base library version, and reproduction steps, and contact technical support for investigation. A successful API return does not guarantee that the recording result is protected.

Q: Normal videos are also protected. How to handle this?

A: First, check if there is still an encrypted player on the same page, and whether the mini-program itself or other plugins have set screen protection. After ending the encrypted playback scenario, remove the corresponding component, and then verify the recording result of the normal video.
