How Can Knowledge-Payment and Similar Entities Choose the WeChat Mini Program Education Service Category?

Updated: 2026-10-28 12:21:27

This article helps knowledge-payment, health-and-wellness, hobby-and-skills, and similar entities understand the requirements for WeChat Mini Program education service categories, and choose categories and Polyv mini program integration methods based on their business.

Important Notes

  • Mini program service categories and qualification requirements are subject to WeChat's latest operational requirements. WeChat may adjust categories, qualifications, and review criteria based on policies, laws and regulations, and platform requirements. Please verify the latest category descriptions on the WeChat Public Platform before submission.
  • The "WeChat Requirements" section of this article is excerpted from the WeChat announcement: Summary Announcement of Mini Program Category Adjustments (2026.07.11-2026.10.23).
  • Whether the category review is ultimately passed is subject to WeChat's review results.

The following content is excerpted from the above WeChat announcement and is only formatted and organized; it does not represent any commitment by Polyv regarding review results.

Notes

Non-education industries providing video course services such as hobby and skills, life skills, sports and fitness, and "health and wellness science popularization" (original wording of the WeChat announcement) (excluding education and training, vocational skills training, etc.) must add the [Education Services - Other Online Video Courses] category.

  3. If live streaming services such as hobby and skills, life skills, sports and fitness, and "health and wellness science popularization" (original wording of the WeChat announcement) are provided, the [Social - Live Streaming] category must be added.

II. Our Recommendations

The following are Polyv's selection recommendations based on the above announcement, for reference only. The actual categories are subject to WeChat's latest operational requirements and review results.

1. Course-selling entities without educational qualifications should primarily apply for "Course Sales" or "Course Sales Platform"

Knowledge-payment, health-and-wellness, hobby, and similar entities that do not possess one of the five qualifications for "Online Video Courses" are not advised to use "Online Video Courses" as their primary application category.

Business Type Recommended Primary Category
Self-operated online course sales (knowledge payment, paid columns, course products, etc.) Education Services - Course Sales
Providing online course sales services for multiple institutional entities Education Services - Course Sales Platform

2. When providing educational videos/live streaming, note the risk of adding "Online Video Courses"

According to the WeChat announcement, "Course Sales" and "Course Sales Platform" must add the [Education Services - Online Video Courses] category when providing online courses, online training, lectures, and other educational videos/live streaming.

  • If the mini program still provides the above educational videos or live streaming, it may be required to add "Online Video Courses".
  • If the entity does not possess the qualifications for this category, there is a risk of review failure or subsequent rectification requirements. Please evaluate based on the mini program's actual functions and WeChat rules.
  • Polyv does not provide methods to circumvent category review.

3. "Other Online Video Courses" Is Only Supplementary

"Other Online Video Courses" is only applicable to video courses in hobby and skills, life skills, sports and fitness, and health-and-wellness science popularization, and excludes education and training and vocational skills training. This category cannot replace "Course Sales", nor can it replace the "Online Video Courses" required for educational videos/live streaming. When live streaming involves the above content, the [Social - Live Streaming] category must also be added according to the announcement.

4. With Only the "Course Sales" Category, the Polyv Viewing Plugin Cannot Be Used by Default

The current admission categories for the "Polyv Viewing" plugin remain:

  • Education Services - Online Video Courses
  • E-commerce Platform - E-commerce Platform

When the mini program only has the "Course Sales" or "Course Sales Platform" category, it cannot apply for or reference this plugin by default. You can refer to the Mini Program Solution Selection Guide to evaluate the following methods:

  • WeChat Mini Program WebView H5 viewing page (qualifications depend on the WebView content)
  • WeChat Mini Program viewing page SDK: when using video for playback, there is no live-player permission requirement, but co-hosting is not supported; when using live-player, the corresponding categories opened by WeChat are required and component permissions must be enabled

For plugin categories, see Polyv Viewing Plugin Category Application Qualification Requirements; for component categories, see WeChat Viewing Mini Program SDK Category Application Qualification Requirements.

5. In-App Course Purchases on Android Mini Programs Require Virtual Payment Integration

Purchasing courses within mini programs on Android and other non-iOS platforms requires configuring and integrating the mini program virtual payment according to WeChat requirements, and completing transactions through that feature. The specific activation and settlement rules are subject to the relevant WeChat mini program virtual payment documentation.

III. FAQ

Q: Can I still build a knowledge-payment mini program without a school operating license?

A: You can evaluate applying for [Education Services - Course Sales] (self-operated course sales) or [Education Services - Course Sales Platform] (providing sales services for multiple institutions). If the mini program also provides online courses, online training, lectures, and other educational videos/live streaming, the [Education Services - Online Video Courses] category may still need to be added. Review results are subject to WeChat.

Q: Are "Course Sales" and "Online Video Courses" mutually exclusive?

A: No. "Course Sales" is for online course sales services; "Online Video Courses" is for online courses, online training, lectures, and other educational videos/live streaming in the education industry. When a mini program has both types of functions, it may need to possess both categories at the same time.

Q: Can health-and-wellness and hobby content directly apply for "Other Online Video Courses"?

A: Only when the content belongs to video courses in hobby and skills, life skills, sports and fitness, and health-and-wellness science popularization, and excludes education and training and vocational skills training, can this category be evaluated. When the business is mainly paid course sales, it is recommended to still use "Course Sales" or "Course Sales Platform" as the primary application category.

Q: After applying for "Course Sales", can I use the Polyv Viewing Plugin?

A: It cannot be used by default. The current admission categories for the plugin are "Education Services - Online Video Courses" and "E-commerce Platform - E-commerce Platform". When only the course sales category is available, it is recommended to evaluate solutions such as the WebView H5 viewing page or the viewing page SDK.

Q: What should I do if the category review is rejected?

A: Based on the reason for WeChat's rejection, verify whether the category is consistent with the mini program's actual functions, whether the materials are complete, and whether other categories need to be added. For complex situations, you can contact WeChat officials or your Polyv account manager for assistance.
