Educational Video Powerhouse: New Ways for Online Education

Updated: 2022-05-16 10:08:41
What era are we living in? An era where even buying a broom is done online. Indeed, the internet has become deeply embedded in everyone's daily life, and this fiery internet age goes even further—it has spawned a host of emerging industries that dare to break the shackles of traditional ones. Online education is undoubtedly the most proactive and most in need of innovation among these industries. Wei Xiaoliang, Assistant President of New Oriental Vision Overseas Consulting Co., Ltd. and founder of Liuxue.com, pointed out in an interview with a Beijing Business Today reporter that the model of China's online education remains stuck in a "one-sided enthusiasm" phase: simply moving offline class schedules and textbooks onto the internet, delivering one-size-fits-all rote teaching to all learners without differentiation. Indeed, online education currently faces numerous challenges. Finding a platform capable of hosting educational video content is the most pressing issue for online educators today. As we know, this unique platform must not only ensure the security of video files but also provide distinctive video features that address educational needs, such as: ensuring students can study earnestly online without supervision; enhancing interactive experiences in online classrooms; and enabling synchronized playback of teaching videos and PPTs, among others. With the advent of cloud video technology, this platform issue can be well resolved. Cloud video technology, a cloud-based video platform, encompasses comprehensive video application services and management, including batch video upload, storage and backup, multi-bitrate transcoding, multi-CDN distribution network acceleration, custom players, statistical analysis, and HD video playback. It delivers a top-tier user experience through cloud servers. As a leader in domestic cloud video technology, POLYV provides users with high-definition, smooth video services by building its own network nodes (including overseas) and supplementing with three CDN service providers—Wangsu, ChinaCache, and Dilian—(with approximately 400 network nodes and 3,000 servers domestically and abroad). Additionally, POLYV employs a self-developed video file encryption technology based on keyframe disorder, perfectly combined with OVP video anti-hotlinking, greatly alleviating users' concerns about video file security. In response to the special functional requirements of online education video platforms, POLYV has uniquely developed three online education video tools: the Visitor Information Collector, the Teaching Q&A Player, and the Courseware Player.     Visitor Information Collector At a specific point during video playback, an ad image and form pop up. Learners can only continue watching after correctly filling in their contact information. The Visitor Information Collector helps users accurately and quickly gather learner information.     Teaching Q&A Player At a specific point during video playback, a pre-set classroom Q&A page pops up. Learners can only continue watching after correctly answering the question. If answered incorrectly, the video jumps back to a certain moment (defined by the user). The Teaching Q&A Player not only enhances the interactive effect of teaching videos in the classroom but also strengthens the anti-screen-recording effect of the video.     Courseware Player Displaying educational videos and classroom courseware simultaneously on the same page ensures that learners do not miss any key points from the PPT while watching the teaching video. The Courseware Player not only recreates the traditional classroom but also upgrades it. The development of the internet has fostered a "lazy" culture. Online education, a learning method that allows people to enjoy high-quality education without leaving home, will be a future trend in education. Perhaps, by then, we will no longer have to worry about missing school due to bad weather.
